When I meet with Jimmy Hendrickson and Shawn Layton, it’s midday in a well-appointed Orlando highrise apartment. From the sumptuous decor and sky-high ceilings to an awesome panoramic view of “the city beautiful”, it’s a room with a lot to say for itself. And, for an interview with up-and-coming Orlando real estate team, I feel like this was exactly the right choice.
The Central Florida Home Boys are a fixture in the local real estate scene. Dynamic, vibrant, and incredibly social media savvy, this top realtor team has been taking the market by storm for the last two years with their awesome listings, community engagement, and, frankly, incredible Instagram content. And it’s clearly a combination that has worked for them, currently in their second very successful year.
A Real Estate Success Story
“We’re at the top of our game, now,” Jimmy tells me. From a man who didn’t speak much during our interview, this was a perfect understatement. The team just took home social media marketers of the year for 2019 from real estate platform, Orlando Real Producers. Add to that a solid business year for 2018, with 26 units sold for a volume of roughly $7,000,000, and this is a team with little signs of slowing.
What’s more, they’re out to top that number in 2019. “We’re on track to double that amount,” Jimmy tells me, and Shawn agrees, effusively, adding: “We want to keep the ball rolling, this year. And it’s really all because of our network, our sphere, our friends and family. They’re really the reason that we have the business we have. It’s a support system and we’re fortunate to have that kind of backbone to our business.”
Out and Proud
Specializing in Central Florida, Space Coast, and Volusia County, the CFL Home Boys team has worked hard to establish themselves over the last two years. As a married couple for the last four years (and a couple, in general, for eleven), the other side of that coin has been establishing themselves as an “out and proud” operation, involved with and representing several LGBTQ+ organizations.
“We’re super lucky to live in a time where we’re able to be married as a same-sex couple…” Shawn tells me. “… and serve as a team and as a business to the community that we’re so passionate about.”
A Little History Goes A Long Way
Jimmy and Shawn started their careers in retail, living and working out on the space coast in Melbourne, Florida. During this time, our future-realtors became uncomfortable in their retail careers and began looking for an out into something more rewarding.
It was also during this time they decided to buy their first townhouse. This, as it would turn out, was the answer they were looking for. “Jimmy loved the experience of buying our first townhouse in Melbourne and, I think from that moment, he felt like, ‘Maybe I really want to do this for a living’,” Shawn said, adding: “Jimmy’s the one who really brought me around.”
The pair moved to Orlando, began their real estate careers, and the rest, as they say, is history. “We decided to go into real estate with the idea that we would be able to create our own business and be in control of our own schedule and be able to serve the community at the same time.”

And the results of their decision to go into business for themselves? “We’re a yin and yang relationship. Total opposites.” With two unique approaches to business and a synergistic relationship, the balance of this relationship clicks within their business, helping them make decisions and see the big picture, overall.
Maybe it’s their hilarious Instagram content, replete with dancing, inflatable dancers, and smiling faces. Maybe it’s their involvement with the Orlando LGBTQ+ community, their bold branding, or just the massive success of their operation in the last two years. Whatever it is, CFL Home Boys look set for continued success in the next few years, and we can’t wait to see it all unfold.
